Planning Consent for Mildmay Grove Apartments

27th June

On 20th June 2013, London Borough of Islington granted planning consent for Piercy&Company's scheme of four apartments and an artist studio at Mildmay Grove North. The project is scheduled to start on site in Autumn 2013.

The design reflects the traditional Georgian grain of the street in proportion and material palette. Height is emphasised by splitting the central mass into two wings, whilst a stepped building mass addresses the difference in height of the adjacent properties. The material palette includes robust masonry, timber details and generous window openings which optimise light and views.

The scheme incorporates a creative collaboration between the artist Gillian Singer, an established artist working across sculptural and architectural installations, and Piercy&Company. Together they will design patterned cast masonry floor surfaces and façade treatments, continuing Gillian’s body of work using graphic and symbolic iconography. Gillian’s work is often built directly into architectural spaces- stretching across floors and entire walls, or revealing themselves in small and unexpected details. Mildmay Grove North will see Gillian explore her work on an intimate, domestic scale.

Mildmay Grove North continues Piercy&Company’s ongoing practice of working collaboratively with artists.
