RA Summer Exhibition

12th June

A model of 2 Gee Street in plywood, timber veneer and cast concrete has been selected to be part of this year's Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy.

The delicate model depicts the way the new building is stitched into the Clerkenwell context. A finely gridded glazed wall was inspired by the crittal glass of local warehouse buildings and the factory glazing of the international style, whilst the side elevations are in a more robust brick, recalling the exposed party walls visible throughout the surrounding area.

This year's Architecture Room was curated by Piers Gough RA with the models positioned at eye level, eliciting in the viewer the sense of the "intense and quite jumbled experience of going around a city".

The Summer Exhibition runs until 19 August 2018.
